Brazil-born Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta included in Italy squad for Germany friendly

MILAN (CP) — Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has included Inter Milan's Brazil-born midfielder, Thiago Motta, in his squad for the friendly with Germany on Wednesday.
Motta holds an Italian passport, but twice represented a Brazil under-23 team at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup, leading to confusion as to whether he would be eligible for any other national team.Representatives from the Italian FA recently argued to FIFA that Motta remains eligible for Italy, but he has yet to receive clearance.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon returns to the squad for the first time since injuring his back in Italy's opening World Cup game. He has since regained full fitness and returned to action in early January.
Prandelli initially made Buffon his captain, but his lack of fitness means Andrea Pirlo will captain the side.
Buffon's new Juventus teammate, Alessandro Matri, is included after scoring twice in two games for his new club.
Fellow striker Giampaolo Pazzini receives a call-up after making a simililarly impressive start since joining Inter, with three goals in two games.
